All DARe training provides a thorough understanding of both early childhood and adult attachment… giving practitioners concrete tools to help change deep-rooted patterns and open the path to a more secure way of relating.

By introducing a unique blend of psychotherapeutic modalities, experiential strategies and neuroscience and spiritual perspectives, the DARe Certificate Program moves beyond theoretical concepts to give both novice and experienced practitioners a fast-track to learning and personal growth.

What is the DARe Certificate Program?

The DARe Certificate Program is a continuing education certificate training program that aims to augment and elevate the clinical skills of professionals and advance the standard of clinical care regarding adult relationships and adult attachment adaptations.

In a supportive and professional environment, therapists, social workers, bodyworkers, mental health professionals and other clinicians gain an in-depth understanding of how to address unresolved trauma, heal attachment wounds and reclaim and restore secure attachment skills.

Using the framework of Dr. Diane Poole Heller’s Dynamic Attachment Repatterning experience approach (DARe), the Certificate Program combines psychotherapeutic modalities, scientific and spiritual perspectives with attachment and trauma-informed tools, techniques and strategies.

You’ll gain skills you need to work more effectively with clients and…

  • Tap into your own potential for recovery and growth so you can embody the practices to better serve your clients.
  • Learn how to recognize and address different attachment styles and adaptations in real-time.
  • Become an expert in a unique therapeutic approach that gets to the root of trauma and supports permanent changes that alleviate suffering and bring joy and fulfillment.
  • Work with the relational field and the nervous system, which is the key paradigm when working with attachment wounds and trauma.
  • Receive practical, experiential training that emphasizes integration of practical, clinical knowledge with existing modalities you already use.
  • Access valuable tools and exercises to experience and embody the work for yourself.

Admission Standards

The DARe Certificate Program provides valuable credentials, as well as a chance to grow your network and practice by being listed on Dr. Diane Poole Heller’s high-traffic website as an Approved DARe Certificate Program Graduate and Provider.

This program is designed to train clinical professionals in working more effectively with their client’s unresolved attachment wounds and trauma. It is not suitable for people who are solely seeking personal growth. While we do consider novice clinicians and students in accredited university programs, most of our successful students are clinical practitioners with an active practice––so that the skills and techniques learned in the training can be applied and integrated immediately to clinical practice throughout the program.

For more information or to start the application process, see the “How to Apply” tab.

Training Curriculum

The DARe Certificate Program curriculum combines live and pre-recorded online training, informational support materials, experiential demonstrations and guided practice sessions that emphasize the practical, clinical application of knowledge to therapeutic sessions.

DARe is not designed to be an independent method of healing. Instead, it is a supplementary method intended to integrate into an already existing practice.

Both live and recorded lectures are supported by audio/visual slide presentations spanning a variety of relevant topics, including attachment research, neuroscience, research studies and experiential techniques from integrative psychotherapeutic orientations.

Instructional support materials such as workbooks, charts, assessments, handouts, transcripts, checklists and other course resources are available for download to your professional reference library. The only thing you cannot download are client demos––as we need to honor and respect client confidentiality.

Each course module includes in-depth experiential demonstrations where teachers demonstrate skills and techniques through role-play, interactions with students––and live or recorded demos of client sessions.

Exercises and practice groups (with coaching) provide additional opportunities to practice clinical applications, receive personal feedback and explore topics in-depth.

Lastly, you’ll be able to participate in LIVE Q&A sessions, where our DARe Faculty and Assistants answer specific questions, review case consults and give you practical tips and techniques to integrate into everyday clinical practice immediately.

Program material is taught in four training course modules.

Live, online 3-day workshops are offered quarterly throughout the calendar year. 6-week, hybrid e-learning (self-paced + instructor-led) courses are offered twice a year.

Explore the Training and Event Schedule to view (and register for) upcoming training.

Please note, Fundamentals of Attachment Styles is a prerequisite for all other levels of DARe training. The remainder of the training modules may be taken in any sequence.

  • Level 1: Fundamentals of Attachment Styles
Learn the basics of attachment system dynamics, so you can get to the root of unresolved trauma to help yourself and clients address negative patterns that undermine connection and intimacy in adult relationships.

May be taken as a live, online intensive, 3-day workshop––OR–– as a 5-week, online, self-paced course (must attend live integration sessions) to count toward the certificate requirements.

  • Level 2: Attachment Strategies for Adult Relationships
Learn how to combine an attachment focus with a practical skill-building approach to help adults and couples shift destructive patterns and embrace positive ways of perceiving, behaving and interacting.

May be taken as a live, online intensive, 3-day workshop––OR–– as a 6-week, online, self-paced course (must attend live integration sessions) to count toward the certificate requirements.
  • Level 3: Neurobiology, Attachment & Secure Relationships
Discover practical tools, skills and strategies that activate the brain’s neuroplasticity and help you and your clients cultivate their own inner resources––promoting repair, resilience, secure attachment skills and post-traumatic growth.

May be taken as a live, online intensive, 3-day workshop––OR–– as a 6-week, online, self-paced course (must attend live integration sessions) to count toward the certificate requirements.

  • Level 4: Clinical Strategies to Address Complex Trauma
Learn how attachment theory and a wide variety of therapeutic techniques and perspectives can be integrated to address complex trauma states and abuse dynamics to effectively alleviate unnecessary suffering, promote healing and restore secure attachment skills.

May only be taken as an intensive, 3-day workshop to count toward the certificate requirements.

Additional Certificate Requirements

All requirements for the certificate program must be completed within 3 years of acceptance, including the following…

  1. DARe Training Modules: Levels 1, 2, 3 and 4 (you must attend a minimum of two, 3-day DARe Live Intensive Workshops). Please note, Level 1: Fundamentals of Attachment Styles is a prerequisite for all other levels of DARe training and must be taken first. The remainder of the course modules may be taken in any sequence.

  2. Minimum of 5 hours of personal (one-on-one) sessions with an approved DARe Associate provider, where you learn how to strengthen secure attachment skills for yourself from the bottom-up. You can find and choose an approved DARe Associate in our DARe Practitioner Directory.

It is strongly recommended that you plan and distribute personal sessions throughout your training. Fees for these credited sessions are paid directly to the providers––individual approved providers set their fees (estimates vary ~$100-$200/hour).

  3. Minimum of 5 hours of individual case consultations where you work one-on-one with an approved DARe Associate provider to review a real-world client case––discussing tools, techniques and challenges––so you learn how to integrate and apply the work to your own therapeutic sessions.

  4. Minimum of 6 hours (or four, monthly 1.5-hour sessions) of small group, online case consultations facilitated by a DARe Associate, where new and experienced therapists (minimum 5, maximum 15 attendees) further learn how to integrate and implement the DARe approach to client cases.

You’ll use the knowledge and insights of the group to help with challenging cases––practice in a safe environment, get immediate feedback and discover how to navigate the DARe approach and integrate it more effectively with existing modalities.

Small group consultations are open to DARe Certificate Program students and anyone who is or has taken DARe Live Intensives. Please note, these sessions are designed to train clinical professionals in working more effectively with their client’s unresolved attachment wounds and trauma. They are not a substitute for therapy and are not suitable for people who are solely seeking personal growth.

Small Group Case Consultations are offered multiple times, monthly. Six hours (or 4 sessions) are already included in your base tuition and fees if you’re part of the DARe Certificate Program. See the Training and Event Schedule to view (and register for) this beneficial training.

  5. Participate as a DARe Assistant in at least one DARe Live Intensive, 3-day workshop (any level). You will help facilitate student dyads, work together to practice elements of the DARe method and monitor and support students’ skills during class exercises.

  6. Once you’ve met program course requirements and submitted log sheets of your 16 hours of individual, personal and small group case consultations, you must submit a case study presentation (audio or video) demonstrating proficiency in working with a client using the DARe approach––and complete a 60-minute evaluation and discussion with either a DARe Instructor or DARe Associate.

ADVANCED TRAINING TO HEAL TRAUMA

WHO SHOULD JOIN THE DARe CERTIFICATE PROGRAM?

Attachment theory is often referred to as an important part of clinical work, yet the average professional rarely receives adequate professional training on how to integrate theory with existing modalities and apply it to everyday clinical practice.

By better addressing attachment concerns, DARe-trained professionals can support targeted and more effective outcomes for clients.

A woman wearing a red shirt and scarf explores attachment.

“I chose the DARe program because I was doing a lot of work around intergenerational healing. One of things I got from this work was a sense of pacing…creating a spaciousness around working with clients and asking questions…allowing people to have the time they need to respond thoughtfully and intuitively. I’m already seeing how this can help me in my client work and how it can expand my practice. It’s also going to help me in my interpersonal relationships…with my partner, my friends and others.”
